Campus Built Together is San Diego College of Continuing Education's community-driven initiative to identify a permanent name for Harbor View Campus.

We believe the future of our campus should be shaped by the people it serves. Through surveys, community conversations, and opportunities for public participation, students, employees, alumni, neighborhood residents, community partners, and other stakeholders are invited to share their perspectives as we work together to select a permanent campus name.

This page serves as the central hub for project updates, important dates, community engagement opportunities, and resources throughout the naming process.

Why Is the Campus Being Renamed?

On April 6, 2026, the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees voted to temporarily rename the former César E. Chávez Campus as Harbor View Campus while a permanent name is determined through a transparent and inclusive community engagement process.

Recognizing the significance of this decision and the many perspectives within our community, SDCCE is committed to ensuring that the naming process is thoughtful, respectful, and centered on community participation.

How You Can Participate

Community participation is at the heart of Campus Built Together.

Throughout the process, students, employees, alumni, neighborhood residents, community partners, and members of the public will have multiple opportunities to share ideas and provide feedback.

Upcoming Events

Harbor View Restorative Renaming Circles

Thursday, September 3, 2026
Afternoon session: 2–4 p.m.
Evening session: 6–8 p.m.
Location: Harbor View Campus

Students, employees, and community members are invited to participate in a restorative community circle and contribute to the Harbor View Campus renaming process.

Participants will have an opportunity to share their perspectives, suggest potential names, and help the College select a name that reflects the community.

No RSVP is required. Participants who cannot attend an entire two-hour session may submit their suggestions using a paper form available at the event.

Additional restorative renaming circles will be held in late September and early October at Harbor View Campus, Mid-City Campus, and online via Zoom. Dates and details will be posted as they become available.

Community Survey

A comprehensive survey will gather feedback from students, employees, alumni, local residents, community partners, and other stakeholders.

Harbor View Restorative Renaming Circles

Restorative community conversations will be held at SDCCE campuses and virtually to encourage respectful dialogue and meaningful participation.

November—December

Review and Recommendations

College leadership will review community feedback gathered throughout the process to help inform recommendations for a permanent campus name.
